— I’m Yuna —
just an ordinary person who’s been in love with kanji and writing them ever since

I can remember.

Hi, I’m the person behind Kanji World.

I’m not a linguist.
I’m not a calligrapher either.
But I’ve spent most of my life thinking about one thing: written characters, and the feeling they carry.

As a child, I took Japanese calligraphy lessons—not the artistic, expressive kind you see in galleries, but more like shūji, where the goal is simply to write beautifully balanced characters.
I practiced for years and eventually earned the rank of shodan (first level).

It might sound like just another childhood activity,
but my teacher always told me:

“You can’t write beautifully by copying the shape alone.
You have to understand the meaning of the character—
Why it exists, how it came to be,
Whether to write it with strength or with grace.”

That mindset became a habit.
Even now, whenever I see a character, I can’t help but wonder what it’s trying to say.

Over time, I started to notice how often kanji are used without real understanding—
on tattoos, clothing, brand names.
And while some of it is funny, it also made me want to create a space
where people can make more intentional, more meaningful choices.

At Kanji World, I don’t rank which kanji are “better” or “more beautiful.”
I believe that every kanji holds meaning and power
some bold, some gentle, but none without purpose.

What matters is how you connect with that character,
and why you choose it.

If this space helps even one person feel that connection more deeply,
then that’s more than enough.

Welcome to the world of kanji.
